Preparations for Intravenus Pyelogram (IVP)

For appointments scheduled between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM:

Obtain from your pharmacy citrate of magnesia, drink 5 oz. of at

6:00 PM the evening prior to the procedure.

Have a moderate supper and nothing to eat or drink after

midnight.

Appointments scheduled between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM:

Drink 5 oz. of citrate of magnesia at 6:00 PM the evening prior to the procedure.

Have a normal dinner and a light breakfast (coffee and toast)

and nothing else to eat or drink until the examination has been completed.
